Custom built sub box for the Z31 style Nissan 300ZX

I started off by cutting the back piece to replace the existing mini storage compartment.
I then figured out how far out I wanted it to be. (7-3/4" was what I wanted).
I then traced the piece onto another piece extending the lines on the rear approx 2-1/8" and cut straight down.
I cut a strip of wood 6-1/4" wide and 36" long.
The only section that is square is the main top one. It is 12-1/2" by 6-1/4".
The front piece is squared at the top with one side being 14-7/8" and the other being 13-1/4" (had to bring it up a little to make sure everything cleared.)
The back half of the top is squared at the front and 9-1/2" on one side and 7-3/8" on the other.
The bottom and back I cut to fit. This was more difficult. Wait until you have most of it together to cut these.
At this time, I had made sure everything would fit.
Then I started putting it together.
Lay the back piece (the one that replaces the mini compartment) on the ground.
I use lots of liquid nail when I build boxes, but any good wood glue will work. Also use screws. These do the actual holding, the liquid nails does the sealing and bonding, but it takes a while to set.
Attach the rectangular top part to it. Then attach the front piece. Then attach the rear half of the front.
Once these three frame pieces are on, make sure it still fits.
Attach inside piece using screws and glue.
Make sure it still fits. It isn't easy to get in and out, because it is really crammed in there. I you remove the carpet, it is easier. WARNING: make sure you don't break the trunk/gas release lever.
Then cut the last two pieces to fit. Unless you know the angle and cut them that way, use lots of liquid nails or some other caulk. Air leaks are NOT boxes friends.
I covered mine rather quickly with black vinyl, but you can use anything you want.
